TIPS TO GET PROFESSORS Carolina Soekmadji (PS Scholar from IPB Bogor) After I told that I got the Panasonic Scholarship, my next problem is to get the Professor for guiding me in my research. So, I was using the Web!. I tried to locate all universities in Japan who had the laboratory of Food Science. In that time, I got about 10 addresses and names of the Professors. They had major fields that are interesting for me. After I sent the letter (said that I were interested in their field and also I hope that I could be his students) I got five replied letters. Four of them said that they could accept me, and one's refused. So, I keep in contact with the professor until I made a decision, which lab I will enter. In this case, the Panasonic Scholarship office was helping me in such advises. I wonder how I could get the Professor without their support and guidance. Thank you very much. Shodiq Wicaksono (PS Scholar from ITB Bandung) How effectively find a Professor? From my experience, there is several ways to find a professor: You can ask your lecturer at your campus maybe she/he has an acquaintance at Japan, which is interested in your topic (research plan or your chosen field of study). Contact the Professor at the university in Japan and with the recommendation from your lecturer. The second way is to browse the Internet, go to Japanese Foundation or AIEJ in your country to find the appropriate field of study, the university of your choice and also the professor with their e-mail addresses. Try not to have only one option; at least you have 3 options. After that contact them by e-mail and introduce your self politely. Try to discuss your intention, but you have to remember that there is also a chance to fail to get the scholarship, so discuss this also with your professor. The success factor is not to be encouraged by anything, do not lose your hope. Heri Hermansyah (PS Scholar from UI Jakarta) Hard Effort by ourselves, Seek Professor Profile on the internet or university catalog which the same concern with our research or field, and then send our CV, research proposal, our paper and journal, or resume of our research that we had in university. Write down our concern and interests to be research student under guidance and advisor by the Professor. Find out by Senior/Alumni, First, contact our senior in Campus, and try to get they recommendations to find out Professor at Japan University. If our senior was an alumnus from Japanese University, it was very useful.
